Hello from Team Thunderpuss!

Welcome to Team Thunderpuss, a little blog we’ve put together to keep everyone up to date about ongoing changes in the Bonnie and Robert household, as well as our plans for the future.

A little more than a year ago, we began trying to start a family. The time felt right to bring a child into the world and share with it all that we have and all that we are. Then this spring, we learned from our doctor that most of the roads to biological childbirth were closed to us. It was a trying time, during which we weighed a handful of alternative routes, but today we know which path to take.

We’ve decided to pursue international adoption. Of the options presented to us, we feel this one speaks the most to our own personal values and beliefs. We believe this is the shape our family and our love is meant to take. Over the months ahead, we plan to cut back on expenses and save the funds we’ll need to follow this road through to the child we’ve dreamed of.

As many of the costs associated with international adoption are high, we also plan to hold a fundraising event in a few months. We’ll share more information in the months ahead, but we think a “Love” themed art show will be most appropriate, given the wondrous allotments of love and talent among the people we hold dear.

As we travel this path into the future, we thank you all for your love and support. In time this path will converges with that of another — of a very special child meant to be a part of this family’s love.

Sincerely,

Bonnie and Rob

(Team Thunderpuss)

  1. Bonnie
Anything I can help you with I will. I know of many places here in the Philippines with children needing adoption.
I can try to get you in touch with some of the people I know here, if you would like that?

Great news and I am so happy to see you so excited !

  2. Congratulations on your big decision! I know this is going to be an exciting adventure for you both! Looking forward to helping you celebrate the joy along the way!

  3. Congratulations, you two–you must be out of control with excitement!

The fundraiser idea sounds excellent, and I can’t wait to come up with some creative way of helping or contributing.

    Hope to see you soon!

  4. Congratulations you two!

The very real prospect of starting a family must have you out of control with excitement–I definitely get a sense of it through your writing! The fundraiser idea sounds excellent, and I can’t wait to come-up with some creative way to contribute. In the meantime, since I’m sure you’re busy getting things in order at home, let me know if there’s anything I can do to help.

    Hope to see you soon!

  5. This is wonderful Bonnie and Rob. Thanks for allowing us to be a part of this as we read your words. Count us in for helping with the fundraiser! Love, Evie and Michael.

  6. Hey, Team Thunderpuss! I just discovered your blog today via your home-buying trials link on FB. I’m sorry to learn of your difficulties with “biological childbirth” (what a great phrase). I know that it very difficult to accept/process. I applaud your choice of adoption over some very invasive/extreme measure to have your “own” biological child. I see what some couples go through to replicate their genes and it really baffles me. (Keep in mind, though, that David and I are one of those rare couples who have never wanted to have kids. Our genes are apparently free from the “biological imperative” and are fine with dying out after we’re finished with them, so I’m not judging other folks whose genes are more insistent. I’ve never felt that urge.)
Anyway – I just wanted to wish you all the best in your pursuits, but remember – you’re already a family. Having/adopting children just increases the size of the family that you’ve already made with your love and respect for each other.
That being said – I hope you get your wishes (both child/ren and house) as soon as possible. Please let me know how I can help in either or both. Maybe in a couple of years, I’ll be teaching your kid Grounded Yoga! Wouldn’t that be cool!?!
